Excitement is visible as works at the new Traralgon greyhound track approach completion.
At a briefing this morning greyhound racing officials said the construction of the new world-first J-curve track had injected much needed income into the local community.
The $5 million redevelopment of the track and club facilities – comprised of the recently announced State Government’s $3 million to supplement Greyhound Racing Victoria’s $2 million funding – will be increasingly available to local community groups.
Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club Manager, Steven Clarke said the new track design, inspired by research from the University of Technology, which was based on studies into risk management and stress reduction on greyhounds, would pave the way for marquee greyhound meetings to be staged in the LaTrobe Valley.
Mr Clarke said he hoped the new track would be used extensively given that it has been designed for animal welfare.
“I believe the new facility will have a positive effect on the regional racing community which will ultimately attract some of Australia’s biggest names in the sport,” he said.
Trialling is expected to start in September with the resumption of racing at Traralgon scheduled to occur in October.
