Good Morning punters, and welcome back to another edition of Punt Drunk! First off a quick shoutout to everyone who engaged in our piece on the new Victorian Government legislation surrounding point of consumption tax, and if you haven’t had a chance to check it out you can find it here: Punters Cop It Up The Clacker While The Tossers Live It Up.
Not So Mystic
In-form trainer John Blacker had a feature race double in Launceston last night when Blaze Forth upset Mystic Journey in the @ladbrokescomau Stakes.

Racing Twitter can be a harsh place at the best of times, but when a champion goes around at $1.10 and gets rolled it’s genuine hell! Punters were quick to lay the boots in to the Tassie cult hero when Mystic Journey struggled to pick up Blaze Forth in the home straight and managed to screw up plenty of all-up tickets in the process. In no way are we about to lay the boots into Mystic Journey because she’s an absolute marvel and a horse you would love to own! For a horse that cost $11,000 and has won connections over four million dollars on the track, we’re sure the ownership won’t be too displeased. We’re backing Betty to bounce back in fine style! Just perhaps not as a $1.10 shot anytime soon.
Watch out Melbourne Bossy’s back!
A fitting edition of the th running of The Race Where Legends Are Made!

He’s a superstar, a legend in the making, a strange unit – but a fantastic jockey! Ladies and Gentlemen it’s Glen Boss! Bossy is coming back to Melbourne for the autumn carnival as the ever changing dynamic in Sydney is far too uncertain for his liking! In his stint down here for the spring Bossy rode Sir Dragonet to Cox Plate glory and Bivouac in the VRC Sprint along with more winners than you could believe! With a fat wallet off those wins Bossy will look to add the Lightning Stakes to his cabinet when Bivouac resumes down the Flemington straight and is a $3.50 favourite in all-in markets. Who’s to begrudge the Godolphin sprinter of that tag? Certainly not us.
Pagan v Sheedy….again?
For years on and off the footy field Denis Pagan and Kevin Sheedy were bitter rivals and they are set to resume hostilities when the pair meet as coaches on Rapid Racing Day at Flemington on January 29. Pagan will coach the Metro jockey’s whilst Sheedy will stick to his country roots and hope the likes of John Allen, Dean Yendall and Jamie Mott can steer the Country team over the line! It’s the second year the rapid racing experiment has gone ahead, and we’re big fans of it! 30 minutes between races, all races down the Flemington Straight? Yes please!
