My Bella Mae has continued her unbeaten start to her career by taking out the $500,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes, with the aid of a great ride from Patrick Carbery.
Trainer of My Bella Mae, Dion Luciani, trained the quinella in the Placid Ark with Revitup sticking on for second after leading for the majority of the 1200m event.
However, we cannot go on without mentioning the pre-race drama that took place in the mounting yard and in the barriers moments before the race.
Baby Paris, who was the favourite for the race at the time, went off in the mounting yard and looks to have broken her strappers ankle in the process.
Once all of the runners made their way to the start, Baby Paris was checked by the vet, where she was determined to be unfit to run and scratched.
If that wasn’t enough drama before the $500,000 race, Street Parade was fractious in the barriers and he was also a late scratching, after the vet examination determined he was unfit to run.
Placid Ark Stakes Replay
Dion Luciani picked up his first Listed win of his training career after My Bella Mae was victorious in the Placid Ark Stakes, and there could be more to come with this very talented filly.
Dion Luciani’s stable representative, Ian Gladding, spoke post-race.
“It was a perfect ride by Patty (Patrick Carbery), I said to the girls at the 600m mark that this girl is getting the perfect run.”
Gladding spoke glowingly of Patrick Carbery who rode this filly to perfection.
“The horse is still learning, so the sky is the limit really for this horse.”
Gladding suddenly became emotional when talking about the girls who put in so much work for Luciani’s yard.
“It’s a great operation and all of the girls do a lot of work there.”
Patrick Carbery may have only ridden one winner on the day but he if he sticks with this filly, he could ride a lot more in much better races soon.
“She’s got a good brain and takes every in, she’s a very clever horse.”
Carbery said post-race that this horse has a lot of talent, but she also has a good head on her which will take her a long way.
“She beat some good horses then, that have had a lot more experience that her.
“It was hectic pre-race, that’s for sure. But she handled herself real well.”
