Muswellbrook Race Club is scheduled to host a seven-race card on Monday afternoon and Horsebetting’s country NSW betting expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail in the true position throughout, for the meeting commencing at 1:55pm AEDT.
Muswellbrook Best Bet – Miss Powerbelle
Aleacia Bennett will be hoping her six-year-old mare Miss Powerbelle can continue her strong first-up record when she steps out over 1000m at Muswellbrook. With two wins and two minor placings from five starts when fresh, she is nearly bombproof when resuming from a spell and this looks to be well within her grasp. She has won three in a row coming into this run off a 14-week spell having raced on speed throughout and from barrier seven we expect to see Mikayla Weir lob her outside the leader. Miss Powebelle clearly has a class edge on this field and if she is anywhere near her best, she looks a clear best bet on Monday.
Next Best Bet at Muswellbrook – The Chosen One
The Damien Lane-trained The Chosen One is coming off a slightly disappointing two-length defeat at the Muswellbrook 1280m on January 4. The five-year-old son of Choisir hit the front with 250m to go but was left vulnerable a long way out from home before being ultimately run down. That was over 1280m, so the step up to the 1450m looks to be ideal third-up from a spell. From barrier two, he is almost certain to gain a suck run in transit under Darryl McLellan and with even luck in the home straight, The Chosen One has the turn of foot required to take out a Class 1 affair like this.
Best Value Bet at Muswellbrook – Thunder Knob
In the third leg of the quaddie, the Marc Quinn-trained Thunder Knob looks to present great value having filled the minor placings in his last three runs. Despite being an eight-start maiden, the three-year-old son of Nicconi is as honest as you would hope for and tends to do his best racing when setting the tempo. From barrier 15, look for Reece Jones to be aggressive early to take up the ascendency and if he can do that easily enough without burning up too much energy, Thunder Knob should prove too hard to run down.
