It’s Murwillumbah Cup Day (1550m) on Friday afternoon, with Big Dance eligibility up for grabs in the $70,000 feature. It’s supported by a very competitive eight-race program, and with the rail in the true position the entire circuit, we should be racing on a fair track. The surface is all but guaranteed to sit in the Good range, with the opening event scheduled for 12:35pm AEST.
Murwillumbah Cup Tip: Kinloch
In what seems to be a wide-open affair, we’ve landed with the ever-consistent Kinloch in the Murwillumbah Cup. He’s had three starts this preparation for three minor placings and should’ve won in his latest 1400m effort at Eagle Farm. He got back on that occasion, giving his rivals an eight-length head start turning for home, and just couldn’t quite make up the margin on Canadian Dancer. The Kris Lees-trained gelding looks set to peak at 1550m, and despite the 60kg on his back, Kinloch could prove the class commodity in this field.

Best Bet at Murwillumbah: Kirsten
Kirsten appears ready to find the winner’s enclosure for the first time on Friday as she makes her fourth start of the campaign. The daughter of Capitalist closed off nicely at Lismore on August 7 and should appreciate getting the blinkers on for the first time, as she has plenty of ability but seems to lose focus in the final stretch of her races. Les Tilley must overcome barrier seven, but if he elects to head forward, Kirsten should give followers a massive sight.

Next Best at Murwillumbah: Mirann
Mirann is a well-tried galloper from the Matthew Dunn yard and will be seeking his third career win on Friday afternoon. He comes out of a five-horse field at Eagle Farm on August 5 where he finished fourth, and despite being beaten by 3.7 lengths, the effort had plenty of merit. That race has had two subsequent winners, and this looks like a perfect opportunity for Mirann to add to her strong form. Look for Matthew McGuren to ping the lids from the inside draw (1), and if he can pinch a break on his rivals, Mirann will look the winner at some stage.
