Racing heads to Mudgee on Sunday afternoon, with the $150,000 Country Championships Qualifier taking top billing on a massive eight-race program. The rail is out +4m between the 900m and 600m markers, while it sits true for the remainder. It should be a fair afternoon of racing, with an improving Soft 6 surface expected for race-day. The opening race is set to get underway at 12:55pm AEDT.
Country Championships Qualifier: Life’s A Party
Life’s A Party has had seven starts this campaign and has found the winners’ enclosure on three occasions. That includes his latest effort at Bathurst on February 12, relishing the wet conditions to score by 1.4 lengths. The son of Star Turn has proved competitive on top of the ground as well, with a career peak coming at Randwick on December 30 when producing a runner-up performance in Highway company behind an airborne Gallant Star. That form jumps off the page for a race like this, and with the 1400m seemingly ideal for the Mark Jones-trained galloper, punters can expect Life’s A Party to book his ticket to the Country Championships Final on April 6.

Best Bet at Mudgee: Bit Of Banter
After dispatching her rivals by three lengths on debut at Bathurst on February 12, Bit Of Banter will take plenty of beating second-up. The three-year-old was able to take up a stalking position on that occasion, and when asked for the ultimate effort by Ashley Morgan, the daughter of Written Tycoon stormed down the centre of the course to score. The Bjorn Baker barn elects to keep her at the sprinting trip over 1200m on Sunday, and although there is some depth to this Class 1 contest, Bit Of Banter will prove very hard to hold out.

Next Best: Tokyo Run
Tokyo Run made an eye-catching debut for the Dean Mirfin stable after being transferred from the Chris Waller barn and seems to be relishing his new conditions. The three-year-old gelding launched from the rear of the field at Bathurst on February 12 and was always going to find the 1100m too sharp. Getting out to the 1400m should be ideal for the son of Staphanos, and with form from last preparation suggesting Tokyo Run has plenty of upside, this guy should be right in this maiden contest.
