The new week of racing is set to get underway at Morya Jockey Club on Monday afternoon, with a quickfire seven-part program lined up for punters. The rail is out +3m between the 1000m and 380m markers, while the remainder is in the true position the rest of the way around. The warm weather and sunny skies forecast across the weekend should leave participants racing on a Good 4 surface for the opening event at 1:05pm local time.
Best Bet at Moruya: Amont
Formerly known as Innoconstruction in Hong Kong, Amont gets set to make his Australian debut on the back of two eye-catching barrier trials for the Jim & Greg Lee camp. The son of Headwater was winless in his seven starts for Francis Lui but showed glimpses of a galloper with plenty of upside, finishing in the minor money on two occasions behind the likes of Chilli Baba and Juneau Flash. His jump-outs suggest he’s acclimatised well to his new stable, and with a positive steer from gate five under Deep Shanker, Amont should give a strong kick turning for home.

Next Best at Moruya: Thoughtful
Thoughtful couldn’t have been more impressive on debut at Goulburn on July 5, clearing out to score by 2.8 lengths. The late-blooming five-year-old relished the Heavy track on that occasion, making a sustained run down the outside rail of the course under Nick Heywood, giving the impression that this So You Think gelding is better than country grade. The firming ground shouldn’t be an issue, and provided he can replicate a similar effort to his debut, Thoughtful should streak away for back-to-back wins.

Next Best Again at Moruya: Xspiritous
Xspiritous returns after a 155-day spell and appears set to launch first-up. The Tash Burleigh-trained mare was a dominant winner at this course and distance before being sent to the paddock, leading every step of the way to break her maiden status by 1.5 lengths. She was only asked for a minor effort in a recent trial at this track on July 12, and with the daughter of Xtravagant bound to have more upside than some of her key rivals, expect Xspiritious too prove too classy for this lot.
