John Morrison has the right kind of firepower to add to his collection of Kurow Cups on Sunday.
The Ashburton horseman heads back to an annual meeting he has had plenty of success at in the past with his stable in outstanding form.
That form looks a huge chance of continuing with Morrison training and driving the two early favourites for both the Kurow Trotting and Pacing cups.
Jimmyray will be out to make up for a lost opportunity when he starts in the Waitaki Hotel Kurow Cup Handicap Pace.
The pacer impressed with a big recent Addington trial win against quality opposition but he missed his next assignment at the same track.
“It was a great trial, he went really well,” Morrison said.
“I was going to start him in the National Handicap but he got a bit of greasy heel and I had to scratch him.”
“It is all under control now so he can carry on with his campaign.”
“It was a shame because I was really happy with him, but his work has still been really good.”
“He doesn’t do anything amazing at home, but for him he has been really good.”
“His form overall has been pretty good this year and hopefully he can go a good race.”
Galleons Ambassador will be out to bag back-to-back wins in the Temuka Transport (1967) Kurow Cup Handicap Trot.
The mare has been brilliantly consistent through winter and starting from the front line should help her continue her great form.
“She won a few quickly last year and got up into a higher grade pretty quickly.”
“This year she has continued in that grade and been really consistent.”
“She is getting close to a win, I have been very happy with her lately.”
“Hopefully she might be able to win the race again.”
Morrison takes eight drives on the 10-race Kurow Cup programme at Oamaru and he rates Pioneer and Take After Me among his best chances from outside stables.
“It is a shame Pioneer has drawn 9, he has been going near enough lately and if he gets any luck he could run a handy race.”
“Take After Me’s last run at Addington was good and I think Oamaru should suit him, he should be able to get around there.”
“He would have to be a place chance.”
Morrison also links up with Millie Let Loose, Gliding High, Destiny’s Dream and Normie Stead.
