Feature racing returns to Morphettville on Saturday afternoon with the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) headlining a nine-race program. With showers forecast leading into the meeting, the track should be no firmer than the current Soft 6 rating. The rail comes out 2m the entire circuit, with the action set to commence at 11:52am ACST.
Lightning Stakes Top Tip: Exploring
The Listed Lightning Stakes has attracted a strong field of sprinters, and based on her first-up win, it is hard to go past Godolphin’s Exploring. The two-year-old filly managed to lead throughout over the Flemington 1000m and looks to be a genuine short-course sprinter, having won three times in four goes at the trip. She will need to be at her best early to overcome barrier 17, but with Celine Gaudray on board with just 52kg, this daughter of Brazen Beau will be given every chance to find the front. Already a Group 2 winner, Exploring is the clear class in the field.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Sacred Bull
The way the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Sacred Bull broke his maiden at Bairnsdale suggests he has the quality of a Saturday-grade horse. The lightly raced three-year-old settled midfield first-up on July 14 and hit the line vigorously late over the 1600m. He draws to gain a similar run in transit under Teagan Vorham for his first look at Morphettville, and with a bit of early speed engaged, the race looks perfectly set up for Sacred Bull.

Next Best at Morphettville: Karacasu
Karacasu hasn’t won since May last year, but he put the writing on the wall first-up from a spell when charging home late at Murray Bridge on July 1. The Headwater gelding is already a two-time winner at the Morphettville 1100m, and despite drawing awkwardly (10), his racing pattern naturally has him towards the rear of the field. Zarace will make this a genuinely run event, and with a sharp turn of foot, Karacasu should be finishing far too good for his rivals.

Best Value at Morphettville: Victory Bandit
The Sue & Jason Jaensch-trained Victory Bandit has finished second at her last three starts. The five-year-old is set to step up to the 2009m on the weekend, and despite not running a drum in two goes at the trip, her recent form has her right in a race like this. The mare will get every chance to see out the trip from barrier two under Harry Grace. A softer track will benefit her more than others, so if Victory Bandit is near her best, she looks a smart bet.
