A nine-race card is scheduled on Monday afternoon for Morphettville where it is Adelaide Cup Day and Horsebetting’s South Australian form analyst is confident in steering the punters into a few winners. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail out 3m from the 1200m to the winning post, meaning we are in for a perfect day of racing throughout the card. Racing is scheduled to kick off at 12:30pm ACDT (1pm AEDT) with a 3YO Handicap over 1200m.

Race 1: 3YO Hcp (1200m)
We look to kick off Adelaide Cup Day with a win when the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Mac ‘N’ Cheese returns from a near six-month spell. Having shown her class in the spring when competitive in Stakes level races in Melbourne, the three-year-old Sebring filly is set to go around in one of the easiest races she has contested in her career. The slight query is whether she will find the 1200m too sharp and needing to lug 58kg fresh from a spell could be a hinderance, but on class alone she looks the one to be with in the opener. The $4 on offer from Sportsbet looks to be a steal.

Race 2: Cinderalla Stakes (1050m)
The Cinderalla Stakes for the two-year-old fillies is the first of the black-type races on Monday and we’re hoping the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Arabian Melody can build off her strong debut performance. The Pride of Dubai filly showed an impressive turn of foot when finishing second at Ballarat on February 27 and with natural improvement looks more than capable of giving this race a shake at a double figure price. From barrier five, John Allen should look to have her in the one-one throughout and with a similar turn of foot, Arabian Melody may just prove too hard to hold out.

Race 3: BM72 Hcp (1600m)
Our best bet of the day comes up in the third event of the day when the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Yulong Justify looks to bounce back from a midfield finish last time out. Having strung together consecutive wins prior to that, the four-year-old Written Tycoon gelding clearly has some sort of ability and strikes an easier race here. The Madison Lloyd booking looks to be a strong signal as with her 3kg claim, the chestnut gelding will go around with 57kg on his back and we expect to see the apprentice settle him in a prominent role throughout. From barrier two, Yulong Justify should gain the perfect run in transit and with a slick turn of foot, should prove too good for this lot.

Race 4: BM78 Hcp (1050m)
Phillip Stokes looks to send his four-year-old mare Okay To Pay to the Morphettville 1050m following strong performances in Victoria this time in. Having won three of her five races in arguably stronger races than this, we expect the four-year-old Gingerbread Man mare to prove too hard to run down. From barrier 10, Madison Lloyd will look to roll forward and have her mount settled outside the leader throughout and with race fitness and confidence on her side, Okay To Pay looks the one to beat. The $4.60 from Neds looks a perfect price.

Race 5: C.S. Hayes Cup (1600m)
One of our better bets of the day Royal Mile is set to step out over the mile in the C.S. Hayes Cup and further stamp his credentials as a horse on the rise in SA. The four-year-old Danerich gelding was arguably a good think licked over 1400m on the Parks track at Morphettville when consistently finding traffic in the home straight when beaten under a half-length. The step up to the mile second-up looks ideal as he is undefeated from two starts at the trip and having not missed the top two when second-up into a campaign he looks hard to beat. From barrier four, Jacob Opperman will look to give him the run of the race in the one-one and armed with the best turn of foot in the race, Royal Mile should shows his class in the Listed event.

Race 6: Matrice Stakes (1200m)
The Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Manhatten Times looks to make it three wins in a row to begin this campaign when stepping out in the Matrice Stakes. Having given his rivals a start last time out over this track and distance, he quickened nicely and put his rivals away in dominant fashion to suggest he will be hard to beat in this. From barrier 12, he will be given most of these a start once again, but considering he has two wins and a minor placing from three starts at the track and distance he should handle whatever is thrown his way. His turn of foot is sharp and arguably the best in the race and if Manhattan Times is anywhere near his best he looks to be the one who will finish over the top of his rivals.

Race 7: Adelaide Cup (3200m)
The Group 2 Adelaide Cup over 3200m is the feature event of the day worth $302,250 and we expect the Bagot Handicap winner Tigertiger to continue his strong form over in Adelaide. The further he gets out in distance, the better he looks and that was the case when stepping back up to the 2600m when chasing home Sydney Cup fancy Crystal Pegasus in the Roy Higgins Quality at Flemington on March 5. Having won five of his last nine starts, he is clearly racing in strong form and if he is anywhere near his best, then Tigertiger looks to have the superior staying capabilities over his rivals. From barrier seven, Harry Coffey will look to have the six-year-old gelding settled midfield with cover and when asked for an effort, we expect Tigertiger to produce a nice turn of foot and prove to be too strong over the two miles in the Adelaide Cup.

Race 8: Morphettville Guineas (1600m)
The Listed Morphettville Guineas is always a strong form reference for the SA Derby in early May and we are anticipating Set The Sails will prove too classy for his rivals. Coming off a smart maiden win at Pakenham, the three-year-old More Than Ready colt was held up for a run, but when he found clear air was able to put his rivals away in impressive fashion and was doing his best work late. The step up to the mile third-up this preparation looks ideal and with the in-form Ben Melham taking the ride, we are confident of a result in the third leg of the quaddie. The $6 with Ladbrokes looks to be an appropriate price and we expect a tighter quote before they leave the barriers.

Race 9: BM68 Hcp (1400m)
The Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained Sparkup looks the one to be with in the final event of the day on Adelaide Cup Day. The four-year-old Magnus gelding has strung together three runner-up efforts in the lead up to this and with Young Jimmy set to make this a genuinely run 1400m event, then the race should be set up for Sparkup to finish strong late. We expect Damian Lane to have him settle in the second half of the field and with a strong turn of foot in the field of 12, he should be charging down the outside late and bringing up a deserved win.
