What Morphettville Races
Where Morphettville Racecourse – 79 Morphett Rd, Morphettville SA 5043
When Saturday, September 16, 2023
First Race 11:50am ACST

The course proper at Morphettville is the destination for racing in South Australia on Saturday afternoon, with a stacked 10-race program scheduled. The Listed Wylie Handicap (1100m) headlines proceedings, with perfect conditions forecast. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail coming out 13m from the 1200m to the winning post and then out 9m the remainder. The action is set to get underway at 11:50am ACST.

Wylie Handicap Tip: I’mlovin’ya

I’mlovin’ya displayed her class when thrashing her rivals in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) during the autumn and looks hard to beat in the Listed Wylie Handicap. The four-year-old mare hasn’t been seen since finishing last in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m), but her form prior has her right in this race. From barrier seven, Kayla Crowther will look to hold a prominent spot in running, and if I’mlovin’ya can replicate her strong finishing burst, she looks a great play in Saturday’s feature.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Dubenenko

The Chris Bieg-trained Dubenenko is a classy filly, and in BM64 grade, she should simply prove too good for her rivals. Following Sheridan Tomlinson’s 3kg claim, the three-year-old filly gets in perfectly with just 58kg on her back. Barrier eight is offset by Dubenenko’s want to get back in the running, but with a ridiculously run 1050m event expected, the race looks perfectly set up for Dubenenko to exert her dominance late.

Race 8 – Silk #1 Dubenenko (8)

Next Best at Morphettville: Ceerseven

Mitch Freedman heads across the border with last-start Bendigo 1400m winner Ceerseven to the Morphettville 1541m. The four-year-old gelding gave his rivals a massive start but kept coming to arrive in the shadows of the winning post and score in impressive style. Tahlia Hope sticks on board, which is a massive plus, and with a genuinely run event expected, the race looks made for Ceerseven to thunder down the heart of the track once again.

Next Best

Race 5 – Silk #3 Ceerseven (8)

4yo Gelding | T: Mitchell Freedman | J: Tahlia Hope (59.5kg)

Best Value at Morphettville: Exopipi

We will be looking to bow out in style as Exopipi from the Jake Stephens barn looks to bounce back from a poor effort last start. The five-year-old mare was a dominant Gawler winner in easier grade prior to that, but if she can replicate that type of performance in this BM62, it should be more than good enough for her to be featuring in the finish. If she can get the race run to suit, Exopipi will be launching at the line late.

Best Value

Race 10 – Silk #10 Exopipi (6)

5yo Mare | T: Jake Stephens | J: Dom Tourneur (57kg)
