Metropolitan racing returns to the Parks track at Morphettville on Saturday for a stacked nine-race card. The Listed Oaklands Plate (1400m) for two-year-olds is the feature event on a track which has come up a Soft 6. The rail comes out 6m from the 1000m to the winning post and then out 3m the remainder, meaning the track should play evenly throughout. Action is set to commence at 11:42am ACST.
Oaklands Plate Top Tip: Dubenenko
We were with Dubenenko first-up from a spell at Murray Bridge and she got the job done with plenty left in the tank. The Russian Revolution filly was having her first start since her unfortunate fall in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington and showed no signs of ill-effect upon her return. She will need a touch of luck in the small field from barrier one, as she likes to get back and run on in her races. We expect she will be close to last on the turn, but if Teegan Voorham can have her mount in clear air, the Oaklands Plate is Dubenenko’s to lose.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Jean Valjean
Jean Valjean was racing well in tougher company last campaign than what he faces on the weekend. With a nice first-up record (3: 1-1-0), he looks poised to strike on his return form a five-month spell. The wide barrier (12) is offset by his want to get back and run on, and with Ben Price claiming 1.5kg, this four-year-old gelding will be given every chance to do just that. With 60kg on his back, Jean Valjean just needs to be within striking range on the turn to be taking out this BM62 over 1000m.

Next Best at Morphettville: Tahnee Tradition
Tahnee Tradition was denied by the barest margins at Murray Bridge on July 1 when pushing for a third win a row. This will be her third start at the 1550m, and despite not filling a placing in her two prior efforts at the trip, she brings plenty of confidence into a race like this. Lachie Neindorf will have her in a perfect position throughout from barrier four, so if she sees out the trip, Tahnee Tradition should be hard to beat.

Best Value at Morphettville: Trading Post
Trading Post is eight weeks between runs since winning at Pakenham, and that freshen-up will have done him the world of good. The six-year-old gelding is already a Morphettville Parks winner, having saluted here in November 2019, and looks well-placed to keep that unbeaten record intact. He draws to gain a perfect run under Campbell Rawiller from barrier two where the pair can hold a prominent position throughout. With 58kg on his back following Rawiller’s claim, Trading Post’s strong turn of foot makes him a great play at nice odds.
