Metropolitan racing in South Australia returns to the course proper at Morphettville, where another competitive nine-race program is set down for decision. The Listed Christmas Handicap (1200m) headlines the action out of the City of Churches on a track rated a Good 4, with the rail out 12m from the 1200m to the winning post and out 8m for the remainder. The first of nine races is set to jump at 12:17pm AEDT.
Christmas Handicap Top Tip: Streetcar Stranger
Despite being a $10 chance with online bookmakers, the David Jolly-trained Streetcar Stranger is arguably the class horse in the Listed Handicap and the one his rivals have to beat. The six-year-old gelding was impressive when hitting the line strongly behind Jigsaw and Rose Quartz in the Listed Doveton Stakes at Caulfield and a repeat effort, this time over 1200m should be more than good enough. He is yet to miss the top three in three goes on the course proper at Morphettville and on firmer ground looks to be well-placed. Expect the race to be run at a genuine tempo and armed with a strong turn of foot, we anticipate Streetcar Stranger will finish over the top his rivals at a juicy price.

Morphettville Best Bet: Residue
The Mick Huxtable-trained Residue is hard to catch on his day winning twice from 16 starts, but their looks to be no excuses for him on Saturday in the opening leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old gelding was simply outsprinted by Wild Imagination over 1600m a fortnight ago, but was still arguably the best of the beaten brigade. Lachie Neindorf sticks on board with his 1.5kg claim meaning he will carry just 60kg on his back in BM64 grade. From barrier six, Neindorf will have him lobbed in the one-one throughout and when asked for an effort, Residue should be putting a field like this away within a couple of strides.

Next Best Bet at Morphettville: Hopon Harry
With a bit of luck we can build a bit of a bank early when the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Hopon Harry steps out in the second race. The four-year-old gelding was an impressive winner two starts back on the Parks track before finishing fourth behind the in-form My Khalifa beaten just over two-lengths. The son of Rebel Raider is one who improves a couple of lengths when on firmer grounds and he will gain just that on Saturday. Jason Holder will look to have him settled midfield with cover and with a tow into the event, Hopon Harry has a turn of foot that not many of these can match.

Best Value at Morphettville: Kong
Ryan Balfour brings Kong to the races for a 16th time this campaign and we expect he will run as honest a race as ever. The five-year-old gelding has finished in the money on 12 occasions, winning twice in that time to suggest he is going as good as you could hope for. He was well beaten last time out by the in-form My Khalifa in a BM76, whilst his effort two runs back at Cranbourne and his win in Class 2 company three runs back have us buoyant about his chances on Saturday. Young Campbell Rawiller will have him close to the speed throughout and if he can run up to his best, the $12 with online betting sites with Kong looks to be the wrong price and one we are willing to take advantage of.
