When Saturday, June 25, 2022
First Race 11:32am ACST

Racing returns to Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday afternoon with a competitive nine-race card at metropolitan level. With plenty of rain in the lead up to the meeting, we will be racing on a Heavy 8, while the rail will be out 8m from the 1200m to the winning post and out 5m for the remainder of the circuit. The day of racing is set to get underway at 11:32am ACST.

Best Bet at Morphettville: Fighting Mclaren

Our best bet of the day comes up in the penultimate race of the day as the Ryan Balfour-trained Fighting Mclaren looks to bring up a second straight win following a nice win on June 11. The win came on the Parks track over 1000m and the extra 50m he gains on Saturday should prove no hinderance to his winning chances. Campbell Rawiller sticks on board and claims 2kg, meaning the four-year-old gelding will need to lug 61.5kg. The Fighting Sun gelding is a 75-rater going around in BM68 company and is clearly a class above a majority of his rivals. This will be the first time he faces a Heavy, but considering he has three wins and a second on Soft going, we anticipate he will handle the conditions with no issue. The $3.70 with online bookmakers looks to be a steal.

Next Best at Morphettville: Noname Lane

The Will Clarken-trained Noname Lane has always been touted as a miler with plenty of ability and if he brings a similar effort to what see him win comfortably last time out, he should be too good for this lot. The Shamus Award gelding managed to settle up on speed and stalk the leader throughout and when asked for an effort under Ben Price, managed to put two lengths on his closest rivals. His win came with plenty left in reserve and considering all five of his career wins have come on rain-affected ground, the five-year-old is sure to take some beating. From barrier seven, we expect Ben Price to take up the running with next to no early speed engaged in the race. With Price’s 2kg claim, Noname Lane goes around with just 56.5kg on his back and looks like the one they need to gun down in the second leg of the quaddie.

Race 7 – Silk #4 Noname Lane (7)

Best Value at Morphettville: Cashin’ Chex

We were with the Ashton Downing-trained Cashin’ Chex when he finished third beaten 1.5 lengths on June 11 over the Morphettville 1400m. Not much went right for the five-year-old gelding, having travelled four wide with no cover the trip and despite the rough run, managed to knuckle down nicely in the home straight and finished a respectable third. The step up to the mile fourth-up this campaign looks ideal and as long as Caitlin Jones can find cover midfield from barrier seven, the bay gelding looks a great bet. He is armed with a strong turn of foot and if he finds clear air in the home straight, we expect Cashin’ Chex will prove too hard to hold out at a nice price with online betting sites.

Best Value

Race 9 – Silk #6 Cashin’ Chex (7)

5yo Gelding | T: Ashton Downing | J: Caitlin Jones (59kg)
