For a second week in a row, nine races are set to be run and won on the Morphettville Parks track as part of metropolitan racing in Adelaide. As always with these winter meetings in the South Australian capital, finding value can be tricky, but we think we’ve found a few good ones to get behind this weekend. The track has come up a Heavy 8, with the rail out 6m from the 1000m to the winning post and then out 3m for the remainder. The day of racing gets underway at 11:32am ACST, with the last set to go 4:20pm.
Best Bet at Morphettville: Extra Time
Coming off consecutive runner-up efforts, the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained Extra Time gets his chance to break through for a deserved win. He simply gave his rivals too much of a start at Murray Bridge last time out but hit the line with great intent to suggest wherever he went next, he would take some beating. The four-year-old gelding already has a win to his name at the Morphettville Parks 1250m and has shown in his career he handle any conditions. The slight query is that he is yet to face a Heavy track, but recent form alone should see the Shooting To Win gelding run away with a race like this. From barrier two, look for Jason Holder to have his mount settled in the moving line with cover. If Extra Time replicates the finishing burst he showed last time out, then the $3.20 with Bet365 looks a steal.

Next Best at Morphettville: Starts With Hello
We were with the Richard & Chantelle Jolly-trained Starts With Hello when he broke his maiden tag at Murray Bridge on May 28, and he looks well-placed to go on with the job on Saturday. He was made to work for that win, with pressure coming from every angle possible in the home straight, but did plenty inside the final 100m to suggest he was a galloper with above-average ability. The three-year-old gelding settled closer to the speed on that day, going one better than his debut second the start prior. There looks to be plenty of speed on paper, so we expect Todd Pannell to have this guy settled out towards the rear. His turn of foot his more than good enough to win a race like this. The $2.50 looks a nice price, although we could gain better odds with online bookmakers closer to the jump.

Best Value at Morphettville: Cashin’ Chex
Having won in convincing fashion on May 21 over 1200m, the Ashton Downing-trained Cashin’ Chex steps up to the 1400m – a trip he is set to relish, based on the way he finished off last time out. The five-year-old gelding was in a tricky position approaching the turn, but when the gaps appeared, he quickened nicely and never looked like getting beaten once clear. From barrier eight, Caitlin Jones will look to have him out of trouble throughout, and as long as he handles the Heavy conditions, we anticipate Cashin’ Chex will prove too hard to hold out if he is anywhere near his best.
