HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst has run his eye over Thursday’s eight-race card at Mornington and has come up with his best bets and top quaddie numbers with odds from Australia’s leading online bookmakers. The track is rated a Soft 7, the rail is out 3m for the entire circuit, and the meeting commencing at 1:30pm AEDT.

Mornington Best Bet – Morioka

Chris Waller and Damien Oliver don’t often combine, so when they do on a Thursday at Mornington, it pricks our ears up. They team up with Morioka, who is coming off a respectable defeat in the Group 3 Red Rose Stakes on the back of an unlucky run. The Maurice filly ran into bums throughout the first half of the home straight, but once she saw clear early over the final furlong, she showed plenty. She has been placed at Stakes level, and we expect her to break her maiden tag here at start 10.

Next Best Bet at Mornington – Arrorance

We will be hoping that the Mark Webb-trained Arrorance can send us home a winner and make it consecutive wins at the Mornington 1000m. The four-year-old mare did just enough when leading all the way on October 31, and with Jarrod Fry retaining the ride from barrier five, we expect this to be a carbon copy of that effort. However, if the speed drawn underneath her does opt to kick up, we are confident in her ability to take a sit and finish over the top of her rivals. If you rule a line through her failure at Bendigo two starts back, her form is clearly the best in the race.

Best Value Bet at Mornington – La Marsa

On a card that looks to lack depth, we are on the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained La Marsa to get up at a nice price in the first leg of the quaddie. On the back of a short let-up, the four-year-old Dundeel mare draws barrier one and is set to gain a suck run in transit. Her chances are boosted by Josh Richards hopping on board with his 1.5kg claim, and with a bit of luck she can settle closer to the speed than usual. Her sole career win came on Soft ground, which is what she gets here, and with a nice turn of foot, La Marsa is the one we want to be with.
