Eight races are set down for decision on Friday evening as the night racing season continues at Moonee Valley. With perfect conditions forecast for Friday night and the rail in the position on a Good 4 we should see some high standard summer racing under lights at The Valley. There looks to be a couple of good things going around early on in the card, before we set our sights on some value in the Quaddie on Friday night.
The first at Moonee Valley is set to jump at 6:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Race 1 #1 Yukon $2.05
Race 1 #1 is an omen bet for many a punter, and on Friday night at the Valley we are with Yukon, out of the Hawkes stable, who looks incredibly hard to run down in the opening race of the night. He maps to get any easy time out in front over the 1600m, and with apprentice Will Price on board the 2kg allowance will only benefit his chances. His last start at Sandown was one full of merit, despite having to settle for second when going around as an odds-on favourite. He was headed at the 400m mark, but kept finding all the way to the line and ended up being beaten by a nose to show he will take a power of beating this time round.
Next Best: Race 2 #1 Fighter $2.35
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy trained Fighter is quickly becoming a genuine money muncher for punters over in South Australia. He has three starts in his career, and has finished runner up at all three of those starts with odds of $2.70, $1.55 and $2.40 to his name. Connections will be hoping that Damien Oliver is the recipe for success on Friday night when the legendary jockey hops on for the first time. He’ll look to use barrier two to his advantage and have him settle one or two pairs off the pace. Watch for him coming home late over the last 200m.
Best Value: Race 6 #2 Paddy Mac $2.80
Symon Wilde will be hoping his five-year-old gelding Paddy Mac can overcome an excuse-laden runner up performance at Warrnambool when he contests a BM64 in town. Paddy Mac, last start, jumped away awkwardly and there is no doubt that cost him a victory as he was pulling back the margin, but could do no better than just over half a length. The former Kiwi galloper will need to go forward from the wide barrier, and as long as he doesn’t get caught three deep he may prove hard to hold out in the second leg of the quaddie.
