Racing returns to Moonee Valley for the first time since March 19 on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting.com.au’s Victorian horse racing form analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections with odds from Australia’s top bookmakers. The track is rated a Soft 6 with the rail out 3m for the entire circuit, and the first of nine races is set to go at 12:45pm AEST.

Moonee Valley Best Bet: Jigsaw

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet on the day when the Cindy Alderson-trained Jigsaw steps out for the final time as a two-year-old. The Manhattan Rain colt returned from a spell with a dominant win at Caulfield on June 26 and with five weeks between runs looks a clear standout on the Moonee Valley card. We expect this will be a replay performance from his win at Caulfield, with Mark Zahra looking to go forward and dictate terms over the 1000m. Considering he is a naturally pacey runner, Jigsaw should appreciate the unique variances of The Valley and prove too good for this two-year-old field.

Next Best at Moonee Valley: I’m Thunderstruck

The way the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr-trained I’m Thunderstruck won at Flemington on July 17 suggests he is one to watch heading into the spring features over the next couple of months. In that run he put four lengths on the second-placed Tuvalu, who he faces here again. Jamie Kah retains the ride and should be looking to settle the three-year-old son of Shocking in the second half of the field and let him stride up at his own accord. He relishes wet ground and, despite going up 5kg, should be simply too good for this field.

Moonee Valley Value Bet: Lady D’oro

In the opening leg of the quaddie, Lady D’oro can turn the tables on her rival Ghodeleine following a 2.25-length defeat at Sandown on July 14. She comes to The Valley 4kg lighter from that run, with Alana Kelly’s 3kg claim bringing the final weight down to just 53.5kg. She also meets Ghodeleine 4kg better off. On the back of a well-timed run, there is no reason why the Robbie Griffiths & Mathew de Kock-trained mare cannot make it two wins from her past three starts.
