Moonee Valley Racecourse is the destination for metropolitan racing in Victoria this Saturday. The track came up a Good 3 at the time of acceptances, but with showers forecast for raceday, it would be no shock to see us racing on a Soft 6. The rail returns to the true position having been out 5m at the last meeting. That meeting favoured runners on the rail massively, and it could be a similar story this time around. The first of 10 races will get underway at 11:55am AEST.
Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Recommendation
Having gone to the paddock following victory in the Group 3 Zedative Stakes at Flemington, Recommendation returns in BM84 company over 1200m and should relish getting around Moonee Valley if prior form is anything to go by. The four-year-old gelding has four wins from six starts, each coming when leading the field up. He has a narrow defeat to his name behind subsequent Group 1 winner Think About It, and he is clearly the class horse of the race. Carleen Hefel will have this bloke on the rail within the first 200m, and from that point, Recommendation should prove too hard to run down.

Next Best at Moonee Valley: Pitchanun
Danny O’Brien’s Pitchanun returns to a track where she holds a strong record (6: 1-3-1). The six-year-old mare looked in need of a run when well beaten at Flemington on July 15, but her form prior has her right in contention in a race like this. With plenty of speed engaged over 1600m, Jye McNeil will look to lob Pitchanun in the one-one upon settling. With a nice turn of foot and a cosy run in transit, look for this girl to overpower her rivals late.
Next Best
Race 3 – #6 Pitchanun (8)
6yo Mare | T: Danny O’Brien | J: Jye McNeil (58kg)

Best Value at Moonee Valley: Scantoon
The Grahame Begg-trained Scantoon hasn’t won in over two years, but in BM70 grade from the low barrier (1), he will not have a better opportunity to break that drought. The seven-year-old gelding looks poised to gain every favour in running on the back of the leaders. Despite needing to lug the 61kg, Billy Egan will have this bloke waiting for a gap on the home turn, and with a short and sharp burst, Scantoon should prove too good late for his rivals.
Best Value
Race 4 – #4 Scantoon (1)
7yo Gelding | T: Grahame Begg | J: Billy Egan (61kg)
