The Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality is expected to feature a full field of 18 three-year-olds, with only one filly competing against the boys in the $250,000 contest at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday afternoon.
Unsurprisingly, Chris Waller leads the way with four runners, followed by Gary Portelli (3), James Cummings (2), and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott (2).
After a luckless run in the Up And Coming Stakes last start, Encap from the Portelli yard has opened as the race favourite with most online betting sites, even though he is one of four maidens expected to start in the race.
The Cummings-trained Tom Kitten, who won the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes, has opened as the only other runner in single figures, with many believing that the extra 200m will suit the son of Harry Angel.
Tanhauser from the Waller yard has been given the top weight after he ran third in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
Interestingly, Ashfall from the same stable has opened as the third favourite, coming through a Hawkesbury maiden victory last preparation.
Group 1 Champagne Stakes placegetter Townsend and last-start winner Raf Attack will take their place in the race for the Waterhouse and Bott stable.
Bjorn Baker has the lone filly in the field, with Infatuation looking to recapture the two-year-old form that led her to win the $1 million Golden Gift.
The 2023 Ming Dynasty Quality is race seven on the card at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, scheduled to jump at 3:20pm AEST.
