With rain on the forecast for Thursday and Friday, the track should stay at the current rating of a Soft 5, although there is a slight chance of a downgrade. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, with racing set to kick off at 12:41pm AEST.
Best Bet at Mackay: Under The Limit
After recording his second career victory at Gatton last start, the Ryan Tyrell & Tom Button-trained Under The Limit appears ready to go on with the job. On June 1, this son of Under The Louvre led from start to finish and brought up a dominant two-length victory over Classique Gal and Better Class over 1400m in a QTIS 3YO Benchmark 68 Handicap. Although this three-year-old gelding has been given a six-week freshen, we expect him to return with confidence and adopt similar front-running tactics in an attempt to replicate his last-start success.

Next Best at Mackay: Isis Carmella
Isis Carmella was backed into favouritism with most online bookmakers in the Battle Of The Bush Final at Eagle Farm last start, where she finished second behind Art By Concorde – beaten by just over a length. Returning to Mackay should be a recipe for success, as this four-year-old mare has a very solid record at the track (6:4-2-0), while she also has four wins from nine starts at the 1300m. Ben Thompson piloted this daughter of Bel Esprit last start, and he has chosen to stick with her again, which should only be seen as a positive.

Best Value at Mackay: Bering Sea
The Mark Cochrane-trained Bering Sea went around in the Tattersall’s Gold Cup at Rockhampton as a massive roughie with most online betting sites; however, he ran into a bit of trouble down the home straight and finished an unlucky sixth of 11 in the 1600m contest. With this son of Pierro stepping up in distance to 1800m at Mackay, a track and trip where he owns a solid record of two wins and a third from three starts, he should perform better this time. This seasoned eight-year-old gelding was in great form before his last start, finishing in the top two at his previous four runs.
