Mackay Newmarket Best Bet – Let’s Party Marty
Since June 10, Toowoomba trainer Lindsay Hatch has saddled up 33 starters, with nine winners at 27%. We are hoping to see that run of form continue when he saddles up last-start Rockhampton winner Let’s Party Marty in Friday’s Newmarket. The seven-year-old gelding started odds-on with online bookmakers in Class 6 company over 1100m last start, and while he got the job done, it wasn’t the most pleasant watch. He drops from 57kg to 54.5kg on Friday and gets Queensland’s leading apprentice, Kyle Wilson-Taylor, in the saddle. The son of Duporth will relish the rise to 1300m, and from the good gate he should be able to race handy to the speed and be within striking distance.

Best Bet at Mackay – Schappose
Tim Cook has trained 10 winners since February 1, and while he is based at Rockhampton, all 10 winners have been at Mackay. Seven-year-old gelding Schappose has contributed to four of those wins, and he is now searching for three-straight victories when he lines up in this Open Handicap. The son of High Chaparral has an excellent record at Ooralea, and while he has struggled at the 1800m in the past, he is racing too well to ignore this time around. He’s set to get all the favours from barrier eight.

Next Best at Mackay – Annakuri
Shaun Quigley has only saddled up one horse since 2012, and that is three-year-old gelding Annakuri. The son of Kuroshio has raced twice in Queensland, running an eye-catching second first-up at Mackay before finishing sixth at Rockhampton last Friday in a 2&3YO Maiden over 1200m. Now getting out to 1300m, Annakuri should appreciate the extra 100m and the lesser-quality field. Last week at Rocky, the race wasn’t run overly quick – but that is often the case at Rockhampton – so he should enjoy being back to a track where they typically go a bit faster. The form out of that Rockhampton maiden looks superior to most of these.
