Lord Mayors Cup Best Bet – Hopeful
Annabel Neasham is really starting to show her training prowess with a number of new imports in her stable, and one of those is Hopeful. The five-year-old gelding by Motivator was brilliant in his Australian debut when second behind Kirwan’s Lane in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup over 1600m. He was a Group 3 winner in France at just his third start, so he clearly has some ability, while the rise to 2000m is going to be right up his alley. From barrier eight, Rachel King will have the horse midfield with cover, and from there he should be able to finish off too well for his rivals.

Best Bet at Rosehill Gardens – Rangi Toa
Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott have a smart one on their hands in Rangi Toa, with the former New Zealander already a winner in Australia. The three-year-old gelding has won three of his four starts, while his only defeat came 12 months ago as a two-year-old at Listed level. The son of Shamexpress was a strong all-the-way winner at the end of April on the Kensington track at Randwick when carrying 61kg on a Heavy 9, so similar conditions on Saturday with 60.5kg on his back should be advantageous. From barrier three, Hugh Bowman will send the gelding forward and he should take a bit of running down.

Best Value at Rosehill Gardens – Travelling Kate
Travelling Kate is absolutely airborne at the moment, winning her past two starts by big margins at Newcastle. The Brad Widdup-trained four-year-old won by four lengths on a Good 4 two starts back over 1850m, before relishing the heavy conditions to win by 1.75 lengths over the same distance on April 30. The daughter of Savabeel stays at 1800m and gets another wet track, which will certainly aid her chances, while Alysha Collett has a very good record on her. From barrier four, the in-form mare will get a nice run in transit and should be able to make it three in a row.
