The Listed $160,000 Winter Stakes headlines a 10-race card at Royal Randwick this Saturday as the Australian Turf Club’s series of winter feature races continues towards the end of the racing season.
Champion trainer Chris Waller has three horses entered with Polly Grey ($26), Longvillers ($12) and Brookspire ($12) his trio while Warwick Farm mentor Annabel Neasham will saddle up Tamahere ($10) and recent import Matthew Flinders ($13).
Online Bookmakers Fixed Odds sees Brigantine ($4.60-$5) and Cotehele ($6-$6.50-$5) fighting out favouritism and the only two horses in single figures.
Kosciuszko and Country Championships winner Art Cadeau ($19) is an interesting runner for trainer Terry Robinson. A noted wet tracker who appreciates Soft and Heavy going, the six-year-old is one at odds to follow especially the track remains in the Soft rating as it currently stands.
Another of the highlights on the track will be the seventh event on the card – the Vale Ray Selkrig Handicap (1100 metres). Named in honour of one of Australia’s most popular and successful jockeys, it shapes to be an exciting clash as promising types Insurrection ($2.20), Brudenell ($3.60) and Huon ($16) all do battle.
The race will also be doubling up as another important step in the Apprentice Jockeys title as Dylan Gibbons and Zac Lloyd will partner Insurrection and Brudenell respectively.
Lloyd and Gibbons are locked in a titanic tussle for the premiership honours and both secured a riding double at last week’s main metropolitan meeting.
