What Kensington Races
Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031
When Friday, December 3, 2021
First Race 2:55pm AEDT

HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie picks for the seven-race card that is scheduled for the Kensington course at Randwick this Friday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail is out 3m for the entire course, and the first race is set to go at 2:55pm AEDT.

Best Bet – Socialist

James McDonald will jump aboard the resuming Socialist in race three on Friday afternoon. The three-year-old filly by Capitalist finished fifth in her second start at this track, behind Ashema and the Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Yearning, so that form looks red-hot for this 3&4YO Benchmark 64. The Maher & Eustace runner then finished second to subsequent Listed Woodlands Stakes winner Xtremetime, before breaking through at start four with a strong win at Canterbury on a Heavy 8 track. Socialist went north to Brisbane for two runs over the Queensland Winter Carnival but was unable to figure, running fifth in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes and then seventh in the Listed Oxlade Stakes behind Uncommon James and Maotai. With JMac on here from barrier seven, this girl is likely to be ridden positively and will take some serious beating first-up over 1200m on the back of two impressive trials.

Next Best – Too Much Caviar

We were keen on the Waterhouse & Bott-trained Too Much Caviar at Rosehill on Saturday, but the stable elected to scratch their in-form gelding and save him for this. The son of All Too Hard was an easy all-the-way winner at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day, then got run down late by Born A King at Rosehill on November 17. The stable have opted to keep their four-year-old in Benchmark 72 company, which could be the only query with 59kg on his back, but the rise out to 1800m could give him a chance to find cover from barrier eight behind Jazzland and For Valour, who both only know one way: lead at all costs. Jean Van Overmeire knows this horse well now after riding him multiple times on race day and at the trials, so he should be able to get him into a comfortable rhythm and let him work through the gears late.

Best Value – Miss Bosetti

In the second leg of the quaddie, Peter & Paul Snowden will send out four-year-old mare Miss Bosetti in a Benchmark 72 over 1250m. The daughter of Snitzel has had just the one run back this campaign, when seventh in an eight-horse field on November 20 at Kembla Grange. Miss Bosetti has never won first-up in four fresh runs, let alone even place, but she is two from two when second-up, so we are happy to forgive her below-par run last time out. She comes back six rating points in grade to a Benchmark 72, and after Reece Jones’ 3kg claim, she has to carry only 55.5kg. Barrier four looks perfect for this lady, as she will be able to settle closer in the run and get all of the favours behind the speed.
