Kembla Grange Racecourse is the place to be this Wednesday as the Illawarra venue hosts a terrific eight-race program. The track is currently listed in the Heavy range; however, with good weather forecast in the coming days, we think it’s all but guaranteed an upgrade to a Soft surface. The rail is out +3m the entire circuit, and it should be an outstanding day of racing for patrons on course. The first race is set to get underway at 12:50pm AEST.
Best Bet: Iron Man
Somehow, Iron Man remains a maiden galloper for the Edward O’Rourke stable, but we think that will all change on Wednesday afternoon. This son of Exosphere was ready to win last time out at Hawkesbury on April 13 but couldn’t find any luck in transit. He was knocked back and forced wide turning for home, with that the race was over with the winner getting a perfect inside run. It was a day that proved you couldn’t make ground from the back of the field – particularly wide on the course. This time with a step up to 1300m and a more positive barrier, we’d be shocked if Iron Man wasn’t ridden with some vigour to find a top four position throughout. Rachel King gets another chance to make amends for followers and if he doesn’t win this race, it’s hard to see where Iron Man can pick up his first career win.

Next Best: Princess Mary
Princess Mary makes her return from a 159-day spell and looks set to impress on resumption. Another galloper we’ve tipped out of the Edward O’Rourke yard that seems ready to find the winner’s enclosure, this time at just the second time of asking. Her debut behind Cosmic Field on November 17 at Hawkesbury was an eye-catching second finishing less than a length off securing victory. It was another case of being too far back in running and never finding cover throughout the 1300m journey. She returns with a lovely barrier trial on March 20 and showed some versatility to sit outside the leader to score. She’s dual accepted for a race later in the program but if Princess Mary elects to head to way, we’re happy to be with her. Rachel King combines with the O’Rourke camp again and with a ride to press forward from the wide draw, Princess Mary should be right in the finish.

Best Value: Cintin Angel
The opener has some intriguing first-up gallopers, none more so than the Robert & Luke Price-trained filly Cintin Angel. She’s only had one jump-out at Kembla Grange prior to her debut and although she finished third of five gallopers, we were taken with what we saw. This daughter out of Adelaide was last throughout before given a niggle along by jockey Olivia Chambers, seeing Cintin Angel doing her best work late in the trial. It was enough to suggest she can ultra-competitive on debut and with some known quantities in the race, we think we’re likely to get a good price with online bookmakers. Kathy O’Hara gets the nod on Wednesday and from barrier two should be no worse than mid-field. We think there’s some untapped ability in Cintin Angel and hopefully she can produce it on debut.
