Racing returns to Kembla Grange on Thursday afternoon with an eight-part card to be contested. We’re currently working on a Heavy 10 track, but with some pleasant weather predicted over the coming days, we’ll be looking at a drying Heavy deck at the worst. The conditions will be testing, but with the rail moving out 2m for the entire circuit, it should be an advantage to the on-speed gallopers come raceday. The first race of the day is scheduled for 1:15pm AEDT and the last is set for 5:30pm.
Best Bet: Extreme Freedom
Our best bet of the day comes nice and early in the card with Extreme Freedom in race two. This Turn Me Loose gelding from the Robert & Luke Price yard comes here in outstanding form. While the racebook will say he was beaten convincingly by 6.9 lengths at Randwick last start, it was a much better run than it looked, staying on against top opposition and a hot tempo in the Listed Dulcify Stakes on October 1. Prior to that he was impressive cracking his maiden at this track over 1500m; this is the mile and an improving surface should be very suitable to our boy. Extreme Freedom was dual-accepted for race one on this card but then immediately scratched from that easier task for this BM64, which gives us great confidence that the Price team has a high opinion of this gelding. Tommy Berry takes the ride and from the tricky barrier should take luck out of the equation, pushing to the front and being the one his rivals need to chase down.

Next Best: Principessa
Principessa can break her maiden status on Thursday afternoon when second-up for the Joseph Pride stable. Her first-up assignment in quality maiden company against Shohei at Canterbury on September 21 was a huge effort; she was one of the last horses turning for home and made up a stack of ground late, picking up some key rivals to be beaten just 1.4 lengths. Since getting here from New Zealand, Principessa seems to have acclimatised very well. She will relish the conditions and from gate three should be able to box-seat in the run, with Jason Collett electing to stick with this mare by Vadamos. The only reservation we have is sticking to the 1200m here, but we trust the stable has spotted this as an easy kill to give her a win on the board.

Best Value: On The Beach
There’s a bit of déjà vu selecting On The Beach in race four, but we’re picking her again after finding her on top at the abandoned Hawkesbury meeting on October 9. We’re picking her for very similar reasoning, too, as she looks to break her maiden status here second-up after a very strong effort first-up at Warwick Farm on September 14 when beaten 2.8 lengths. Secaution was in that race and comes here without a trial since, while our runner went back to the trials in stylish fashion when winning at Randwick on September 26 by 4.5 lengths while hard held. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained filly by Not A Single Doubt looks to have plenty of upside, plus a favourable racing pattern in a field like this. Expect Brenton Avdulla to ping the lids from the wide draw and take up the running with On The Beach. She’s going to look the winner at some stage, and on a wetter deck this time we think she’ll get home first.
