It’s Cannonball Sprint night!

The Cannonball Sprint has been a staple on the racing calendar for decades, and tonight’s edition looks a ripper with numerous high-profile provincial stars taking aim at the $5250 top prize.

Four heats were run last Friday, with Providence Bale clocking the quickest win (22.30sec), followed by Kiss Your Lips (22.33sec), talented veteran Speed Star (22.56sec) and Howdy Slim (22.76sec).

Check out The Watchdog’s extensive analysis of the Cannonball Sprint below.

MUST-WATCH RACE: Cannonball Sprint Final

KISS YOUR LIPS ? PROVIDENCE BALE ? RILYNN BALE ? SPEED STAR

?Geelong ? Race 6 ? 400m ⏱ 8:45pm

The Watchdog says ? : Thrilling Final and the pace should be hot from the outset. PROVIDENCE BALE (4) was the quickest heat winner, and he has been enormous in his two runs from a spell, however from the awkward draw and with an abundance of early pace around him, he cannot afford to make too many mistakes. RILYNN BALE (6) has won a phenomenal 26 of 52 (50%) and she is one of the most reliable beginners we have ever seen. The draw is never really a concern for her, and I expect her to give them something to catch. KISS YOUR LIPS (3) has been airborne of late and she blew away a good line-up last week. The start will be crucial for her, but if she can reproduce her 8.31sec section from last week, she will be in this up to her ears. SPEED STAR (7) continues to defy age and he notched up win number 45 last week. He may be a few lengths off his brilliant best, but he loves racing here and he should get a nice cart across in the early stages. Punters looking for a boilover may want to look at GYPSY BUN (1), as she is a class act and has the right draw.

The Watchdog says ? : ASTON FLAME (1) ran into a good one here last week but prior to that, she was brilliant when winning here on debut. I expect her to lead throughout and KRAKEN CANDY (8) looks a clear second pick based on her scorching 21.74sec Shepparton win.

The Watchdog says ? : Three leg multi, PHEME (2) is drawn to lead and there is only one real danger in the event. MEPUNGA KNIGHT (2) runs into a couple of good ones, but he is a beast and should get a saloon passage through behind the red runner. DR. XANDER (8) should light them up soon after box rise. Multi price: $3.52

The Watchdog says ? : GUNAI OUTLAW (4) is airborne at present and with his brilliant early speed, he should be winning with ease. HIGH PLAIN (1) and GROUNDBREAKING (7) look the likely options for second and hopefully we can get some value in for third.

? $3 Place – GYPSY BUN

TAB fixed odds: $2.30 Place

The Watchdog says ? : GYPSY BUN (1) has won three of four (75%) from this draw and she can lead or come from off the pace in her races. She should sit around third or fourth into the bend and I expect her to take advantage of a rails run and slip into a placing in the Cannonball Sprint. Great value at $2.30.
