HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst has previewed the eight-race metropolitan card at Ipswich on Wednesday and brings you his best bet tips, value selection and quaddie numbers. The Ipswich track is currently rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 10m for the entire course, which is likely to favour those runners on the speed. The first race of the afternoon is set to jump at 1:14pm AEST.
Ipswich Best Bet Of The Day – Super Gorgeous
Brian Smith and Andrew Spinks combine in the third race with talented gelding, Super Gorgeous. The four-year-old has only won twice in seven starts, but he is never too far away, with a further three minor placings. The son of Zoustar comes off a good second behind Frederick The Dane at this track a fortnight ago when resuming, so he should take plenty confidence in as he steps out up in trip to 1200m. Drawn gate three, Spinks will have this local galloper in a handy position, before he is allowed to chase hard in an attempt to finish over the top of Harlequin Field. We are confident he can win this.
Next Best Bet – Yourallthat
Yourallthat was a touch disappointing in her racetrack return on December 10 when a beaten favourite at Doomben, but we are willing to give her another chance in an arguably weaker race. The three-year-old filly by Your Song was not beaten far at all in a hot form race on debut at Doomben in June, which saw her tipped out immediately, before she resumed with a four-length third over 1200m on a Heavy 10 track a couple of weeks ago. The Barry Lockwood-trained filly now comes back in trip to 1100m and gets on to a much drier track which will suit, while she is also likely to get the lead all to herself from barrier two. Provided Ben Thompson gets her to settle and he doesn’t overdo it in front, Yourallthat can get her maiden out of the way on Wednesday.
Best Value At Ipswich – Safeeya
Lee Freedman and Jim Byrne combine in the second leg of the quaddie with Safeeya, a talented four-year-old mare. The daughter of Fastnet Rock has had 14 starts for two wins and four minor placings, with one of her wins coming in fine style at Eagle Farm back in July in Class 3 company. Freedman has opted to resume her on Wednesday in a fillies and mares Class 2 Handicap, so she should relish the class drop. From barrier nine, it will give Byrne the option to ride her a bit quieter and look for some cover early, before she can hopefully loop the field and return to the winner’s stall. She has always shown a bit of promise this girl, so we are hoping we can see her on her A-game again in this.
