Racing will return to Ipswich Turf Club this Wednesday afternoon for a nine-race metropolitan program. The track is currently rated a Good 4, and with no rain on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect to be racing on a perfect surface. The rail will be in the +10m position for the entire circuit, which will heavily favour leaders and on-speed runners. The first race of the day will kick off at 12:32pm AEST.
Best Bet at Ipswich: Alamira
The Annabel Neasham-trained Alamira is coming off a very nice win when resuming at this track over 1100m in a Class 2 Fillies & Mares Handicap on March 17. This three-year-old is starting to build a nice record in her seven-race career, missing the placings only twice – once on debut and once in her final start in her first racing preparation. This daughter of Pride Of Dubai has very good form references from her first racing campaign, when she ran in the Listed Mode Stakes in December before a three-month layoff. When fresh, this filly was very good, sitting in behind the pace before peeling off the leader’s back to kick clear and put a nice margin on the rest of the field. Although barrier 14 isn’t what Neasham would have preferred, Ben Thompson will ride this girl for the first time and should give her every chance to win back-to-back races this time out.

Next Best at Ipswich: Third Time Round
The program’s penultimate race will be a Class 4 Handicap over 1350m, in which the Tony Gollan-trained Third Time Round will look to build on his strong win last start at this track and distance on March 23. This four-year-old mare didn’t jump well in her previous race, but she was able to muster and find the front early before kicking clear around the home turn. This daughter of Tivaci has two wins from two attempts at the Ipswich 1350m, and with her return to the scene of the crime on Wednesday, she looks very well placed to win again. Ben Thompson has ridden this girl to all three of her victories, so his return gives us even more confidence. Third Time Round will push across the field from barrier nine and look to take the lead, and if she does so without doing too much, she will look the winner for a long way.

Best Value at Ipswich: Swanic Boom
In the second race of the day, the Danny Bougoure-trained Swanic Boom looks well placed to break her maiden after finishing in the placings at two of her three starts this preparation. This four-year-old mare finished third at Doomben first-up and third at the Gold Coast last start, indicating that she is ready to win. Angela Jones will ride this daughter of Spirit Of Boom for the first time, and with her 1.5kg claim, she should be able to push forward and find the front. Jones is a great front-running rider who understands race pace and tempo, so if she can get this girl settled out in front and start upping the ante heading towards the home turn, she might just pinch the race early in the home straight.
