IPSWICH RACECOURSE ADDRESS & HOW TO GET THERE
Ipswich Turf Club is located at 219 Brisbane Rd, Bundamba QLD 4304 and is approximately 35.6km from the Brisbane CBD.
With plenty of action at Ipswich Racecourse throughout the year, many racegoers will be looking to venture to the south-west of the major city as a spectator. So, here’s the fastest way to arrive at your destination to avoid traffic congestion.
Head south along the A7 for roughly 6.8km before getting onto the M7 at Rocklea. Take the M7 further south-west for 20.6km and exit onto the M2 to Brisbane Rd in Dinmore. Look for exit 33 from the National Highway, and from there, simply follow Brisbane Rd until you arrive at your destination.
The entrance of the course is located at T L Cooney Ave, where ample parking for both racegoers and participants is widely available. Regularly scheduled buses are also available if you’d rather leave the car at home, with Roma Street Station buses departing on an hourly rotation.
Locals have the option to drive, taxi, or uber, with many patrons making their way from the Ipswich CBD, located approximately 4.7km west of the Ipswich Turf Club.
Be sure to plan accordingly so you don’t miss all the action, with most meetings scheduled to get underway between 11am-1pm local time.
Ipswich racecourse and starting points
Ipswich Racecourse is run in a clockwise direction, with a circumference of 1,746m and a home straight of 300m, traditionally making it a track suited to on-speed gallopers.
Being such a tight-turning race track, the course proper has many chute starting positions, with the 1100m, 1200m, and 1350m all disengaging from a chute position located at the north-west side of the course in relation to the grandstand.
The 2150m starting point for the Ipswich Cup also has a chute position on the south-east side of the course, with horses passing the winning post on two occasions.
Major races held at Ipswich racecourse
The Ipswich Winter Racing Carnival is known to attract some big-name stables, both from Queensland and around Australia. The most recently edition of the Ipswich Cup was taken out by the Annabel Neasham-trained NSW raider Regal Lion (2023).
Roughly 20,000 plus also flock to Ipswich Cup Day, with a stellar undercard of racing – including the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m). The Eyeliner Stakes has been won by the likes of Lady Of Honour (2023), Snitch (2021) and Man Booker (2019).
Along with the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1200m) for the fillies & mares, won by the likes of Chassis (2023) and Ready to Prophet (2019).
