The Pat Webster-trained gelding exhibited good barrier speed to push forward and find the front before giving a strong kick on the home turn to run away with the win. For the fourth start in a row, Annabel Neasham and Jag Guthmann-Chester will combine with Malarina as she seeks her first victory of this preparation. Guthmann-Chester will have to push forward from another wide barrier, but if Malarina doesn’t have to work too much to find the one-one position, she can break through for a win.

Island Tide heads to Ipswich following a dominant victory over 800m at Kilcoy on July 9. The Corey & Kylie Geran-trained mare has very good barrier speed, which allows her to find the front and run the race to suit herself. Landan Sykes has won on this daughter of All Too Hard three times from four rides, and if the apprentice can find the front from barrier two, there is no reason Island Tide can’t make it three win in a row.
