Insurrection is expected to continue his rivalry with Rey Magnerio when they clash again in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22.
The duo fought out the finish to Saturday’s Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) over the same course and distance, with Rey Magnerio emerging victorious on that occasion.
Despite narrowly missing out on a first-up win, trainer Michael Freedman expressed his satisfaction with the five-year-old gelding’s performance and confirmed that he would likely remain in Melbourne for the Group 1 sprint.
“I was very happy with his run,” he told Racing.com.
“He was first-up (after) eight months and he just got grabbed in the last bit but it was a really good run.
“I’m sure that will improve him and he’ll probably go to the Oakleigh Plate under handicap conditions in two weeks.”
Insurrection is currently an $18 chance with horse racing betting sites for the Oakleigh Plate on February 22.
