Two-time Group 1 winner – I’m Thunderstruck – has sadly been put down on veterinary advice after suffering a life threatening injury during a post-surgery accident.

The news was broken by OTI Racing and further information was made available by the official twitter account of Price Kent Racing.

“Unfortunately I’m Thunderstruck had to be euthanised this afternoon following arthroscopic fetlock surgery.

“He suffered a catastrophic knee injury whilst getting up after general anaesthetic. On behalf of all our owners and staff we are heartbroken.”

OTI Racing echoed the sentiments as well.

“Words can’t adequately express our sadness at today’s news on I’m Thunderstruck.

“We feel for all connected with this amazing horse – our co-owners and the team at MickPriceRacing in particular.

“We will remember him in full flight.”

This tragedy for one of horse racing’s favourites on the turf comes after being a headline act in the All-Star Mile.

I’m Thunderstruck had a very impressive resume and held a nomination for next Saturday’s Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The two-time Group 1 winner will be remembered on the track for his electric turn-of-foot; taking out the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (2021), Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (2022) and of course winning the third annual edition of The Golden Eagle (2021).
