The Group 3 Hyperion Stakes is the feature event this Saturday at Belmont, where nine races are scheduled to be run and won. The meeting is set to be run on a Soft 5, with the rail out 4m for the entire circuit. The first race is set to go at 11:59am AWST.
Hyperion Stakes Best Bet – God Has Chosen
The Group 3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) is the featured event of the day, and it is hard to see how the field beats race favourite God Has Chosen. The four-year-old gelding from the Lindsey Smith yard has missed the top two just once from 11 career starts and holds a record of 12: 8-3-0. He was a breathtaking winner in the Belmont Sprint on May 28 when weaving through the ruck and grabbing Red Can Man in the shadows of the winning post. He meets mostly the same opposition as he did in that win, and with a similar run in transit expected, it is hard to see a different result. The $1.95 with online betting sites is short enough, but anything over $2 will be a steal.

Best Bet at Belmont – The Velvet Queen
The Darren McAuliffe-trained The Velvet Queen has been the definition of unlucky in all three runs this campaign, but we expect those fortunes to turn around this weekend. The three-year-old has finished second in all three starts this campaign, continually finding herself held up for a run when looking to build through the gears. From barrier 14, we expect Chris Parnham will have this filly settled in the second half of the field and let things unfold out in front. Her turn of foot is more than good enough to take out a race like this, and considering she should be fairly fresh (despite being fourth-up), The Velvet Queen should be bringing up a third career win at start nine.

Best Value at Belmont – Charming Belle
Simon Miller and Patrick Carbery will be looking to land three-year-old Charming Belle back in the winner’s stall having been unlucky in running when finishing fifth on June 4. The Choisir filly was planted three wide for the trip and did well to be beaten just over a length in a strong field. From barrier seven, Carbery will need to be aggressive early in finding a spot in the moving line, and if that works out as planned, Charming Belle has enough ability to put away a race like this.
