Hong Kong’s beloved racehorse Romantic Warrior is currently the choice for Racing Victoria’s talent scout, Paul Bloodworth, for the upcoming 2024 Cox Plate event in Melbourne.

However, Bloodworth is approaching the situation cautiously as he awaits news of the geldings return to Australian soil.

Following a meeting with trainer Danny Shum in Hong Kong and ongoing discussions since Romantic Warrior’s victory in the Group 1 Yasuda Kinen race in Japan, Bloodworth remains optimistic but vigilant about the horse’s future plans for 2024.

Shum has hinted that a decision regarding Romantic Warrior’s racing schedule will be revealed soon, with both local and overseas competitions being considered.

While there is an option for Warrior to compete in the 2000m Tenno Sho event in Japan, which coincides with the Cox Plate weekend, it appears unlikely that he will participate in that race.

The six-year-old gelding has won nine Group 1 races locally and internationally, including the Hong Kong Cup, HK Gold Cup, QE2 Cup, and Cox Plate.

Romantic Warrior is currently tied as the $5.50 bookmaker favourite with the Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Pride Of Jenni.
