Horsebetting’s tipster has previewed the nine race-card for the Tasmanian Stakes Day held down at Elwick racecourse on Friday afternoon. See all the top tips, value bets, quaddie picks and best odds here. The rail is out 7 metres on the entire circuit with the track scheduled for a good 4. First race of the day is set to jump at 1:42pm AEDT.
Tasmanian Guineas Best Bet – Turk Warrior
The old bingo rhyme of lucky eight-shut the gate comes to mind because this son of Outreach has already won 8 straight races so far and has more than triple the prize money of any other runner in the Tasmanian Guineas. The only query is the distance and that’s because Turk Warrior has never run at 1600 m before. It doesn’t matter whether the going is good or soft either Barrier 2 should suit him nicely and this will allow him to settle in the lead and show his closing speed in the final 200 m. Both of his wins in this spell have been by ¾ of a length and he has also won twice in this grade (Listed Race). If he wins here then a move across the Bass Strait should be considered. The odds will be short but he has done everything right so far so why not today?
Tasmanian Stakes Best Bet – Mandela Effect
A nice clean run near the lead and close to the rail should do the trick this time in the Tasmanian Stakes for this son of Turfontein. Mandela Effect was only 2.1 lengths away in his last start fourth on the 15th of December over 1400 m when he got stuck out wide all the way. At 1600m his record is 3 out of 7 and he goes well on soft ground as well with a record of 3 out of 8. If he can repeat his form from the Mowbray Stakes last February when he finished second in a Listed Race race then he should be highly competitive. The fact that he is a 7YO is compensated by the fact that he loves running at this track. He should be good value if you can get at least $5 for him if the track rating is soft.
Hobart’s Best Bet Of The Day – The Risk Factor
The Risk Factor looks to be the safest option due to his recent form and his outstanding form at this distance. At Launceston last month he won over the same distance (2100m) in a race that was of similar quality to this one. The 5YO son of The Factor has 1 kg less than his last start and has barrier 1 which should suit his on pace running style. He is 2 for 2 on soft tracks so far but his record on good tracks isn’t bad either with a strike rate of 33%. My only concern is that he’s had 5 races since October and this will probably be his last race before a well earned spell. Brendon McCoull has the ride again and he’s already won six times with The Risk Factor and that doesn’t happen all that often in racing.
