HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and free quaddie numbers for the eight-race program at Hawkesbury this Thursday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is in the true position for the entire course, and the first race is scheduled to jump at 1:10pm AEDT.

Hawkesbury Best Bet – Wizard Of Oz

In the second leg of the quaddie, James McDonald and Chris Waller combine with the Coolmore-owned Wizard Of Oz. The colt by Exceed And Excel is yet to win a race, but in his four career starts he has been placed once at Listed level, while he has also contested a Group 3 at Rosehill (albeit beating only one runner home). This horse’s first-up run was solid enough at Kembla Grange when 1.4 lengths off This’llbetheone over 1400m, so now that he is fitter and back in trip to 1300m, he should be hard to beat. McDonald’s class in the saddle can offset barrier 14, although he is likely to push forward anyway and look for a close position.

Next Best at Hawkesbury – Deficit

Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou combine with Josh Parr in the final race of the afternoon as Deficit tackles a Benchmark 68 over 1300m. This three-year-old Snitzel colt has won just the one race in five starts, but he has filled the minor money on three other occasions when beating home the likes of Kiss Sum, Royalzel and Raging Bull, which brings him right into this. First-up on the back of only one trial, Deficit didn’t make too much of an impact at Newcastle, but like Wizard Of Oz, he too should be fitter second-up and back to 1300m. Parr is likely to snag him back from barrier 10 and look for cover, which will allow him to finish off strongly over the top of tiring leaders in a race that possesses speed. The $5 available seems generous.

Best Value at Hawkesbury – Winds Of War

Lining up in what is a very open affair in race two is Winds Of War, a four-year-old son of Headwater. This Terry Croft-trained gelding has placed third in both runs back this campaign, chasing hard from the back when fresh behind Smirnova – who has since remained unbeaten with a win at Canterbury on Friday night – before starting favourite and going down by four lengths last time out at Canberra. Winds Of War’s first-up run behind Smirnova was here at Hawkesbury, as was his only career win at just his third career start. Connections of the horse clearly have a good opinion of him, as just last campaign he was thrown into the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas, where he failed to beat a runner home as a $151 outsider, but he was mixing it with some of the big boys like Exoboom, Ellsberg and Aim, which is not to be disregarded in a Provincial Class 1 over 1000m. He might be ready for a touch further now third-up, but he will definitely be fit for this. He should get every chance from barrier three under Jean Van Overmeire.
