Racing heads to Hawkesbury on Tuesday afternoon for a very competitive eight-race program from 1:15pm. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit and the track is currently listed as a Good 4; however, with a likely downpour on race-day, we’re doing the form for a Soft 5.
Best Bet: Sports Legend
Sports Legend looks extremely hard to beat in the second race of the Hawkesbury program and we’re happy to launch into our best bet on Tuesday. Trainer Les Bridge has given this gelding out of Deep Field a lengthy break away from racing with a 181-day spell; however looks ready to break his maiden status first-up in this 1100m maiden contest. His form in his first preparation reads really well too, with solid efforts behind Buenos Noches and Northern Beaches back in August. He’s had two trials in the lead up to this first-up assignment and he won both when leading throughout and asked for only minor efforts in both to score. Kerrin McEvoy took the reins in both trial wins and elects to hop aboard Sports Legend on Tuesday and we think he’ll jump, lead, and be mighty hard to chase down.

Next Best: Stanislaus
We jump back to the opener to find our next best of the afternoon with Stanislaus a cracking bet to kick-off proceedings at Hawkesbury. It’s a really nice maiden for the two-year-olds to be fair; however, we’re siding with a galloper with proper race experience to go along with eye-catching barrier trials. You only must look at his debut performance behind his stablemate and Blue Diamond Stakes hopeful Barber to see why he’s a massive chance in this company. He finished 2.7 lengths off the eventual winner, but covered significant ground throughout, before holding on strongly. He had two hit outs at the barriers trials to ensure he’s ready here and team Godolphin are flying at the moment with their two-year-olds, so expect a very bold showing. Joshua Parr takes the ride on this son of Exceed And Excel and from the wide draw should be somewhere mid-field trying to find cover throughout. If he does, he’s the one to beat.

Best Value: Sundida
We tipped Sundida as our best value runner in her first-up effort at Gosford on February 2 and wanted to follow her wherever she went next. It just so happens to be in a 1400m race that looks open enough for this daughter of Fighting Sun to get the chocolates. We thought the debut effort showed plenty of ability when rattling home into third behind Surreal Lily at a massive each-way quote. There was zero tempo in that race for her to sprint off and in hindsight the 1200m was going to be a question mark regardless with just one barrier trials under her belt. She now has race experience and have more of a guide of what to expect from this filly. Joseph Ible trains this three-year-old and will likely give instructions for Louise Day to get back and find cover again; however this time Sundida should be able to round up her rivals if they can sit within striking distance. We’re getting an each-way price with online bookmakers again to find out, and we’re happy to oblige.
