HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents you with his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for the Hawkesbury meeting on Sunday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 6 and the rail is out 2m from the 1300m to the 1100m and then true for the remainder. The first of eight races is scheduled to get underway at 12:20pm AEST.
Best Bet at Hawkesbury – Carartie
Three-year-old filly Carartie worked it all out last start, winning her maiden at Goulburn by well over two lengths. The Flying Artie filly ran fifth in the Magic Millions Maiden in January over 1200m where she was not beaten far, with trainer John O’Shea opting to then spell her straight away. Her win first-up was excellent, so a repeat of that effort should see her very hard to beat on Sunday. Barrier seven allows gun apprentice Reece Jones to settle midfield, before coming to the centre of the track in the straight. She should go back-to-back.
Best Bet
Race 8 – #4 Carartie (7)
3yo Filly | T: John O’Shea | J: Reece Jones (58kg)

Next Best at Hawkesbury – Matlock
A couple of last-start winners come to the fore on Sunday, with Matlock another of those. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained three-year-old was almost four lengths too good for his rivals at this track on May 31 when winning his maiden, so there is very little to suggest he can’t repeat the dose. After leading all of the way, Jean Van Overmeire will be able to use similar tactics from barrier two, which should see him take plenty of catching. This is a good Class 1, so he needs to be on his A-game, but the 1500m will certainly aid his chances.
Next Best
Race 5 – #1 Matlock (2)
3yo Gelding | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: Jean Van Overmeire (59kg)
$3.10 with Neds
Best Value at Hawkesbury – Dirty Merchant
We were with Dirty Merchant last start at Randwick when he finished fourth to Owen County who goes around in the J.J. Atkins on Saturday at Eagle Farm. The colt by Merchant navy trialled well all the way back in September and then had a long break before making his racing debut on May 14 at Newcastle. Now third-up and again at 1400m, Neasham and Rachel King can be onto a winner in the opening event of the day. He could be even better as a three-year-old over 1600m.
Best Value
Race 7 – #3 Dirty Merchant (1)
2yo Colt | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Rachel King (57kg)
