Best Bet at Hawkesbury – Sir Ming
Team Hawkes and James McDonald combine in the third race of the day with debutant Sir Ming. The three-year-old colt by Shalaa has had the benefit of three trials, beating Group 3 winner Semillion in his most recent at Rosehill on July 29. That pair defeated Master Showman by half a length, while boom filly Great Barrier Reef was a further three lengths away in fourth. McDonald hasn’t ridden the horse in either of his three trials and he rarely rides for the stable, so it is an interesting booking, but one we have to like given McDonald’s class. He will be handy from the wide gate and be very hard to beat on debut.
Best Bet
Race 3 – #5 Sir Ming (10)
3yo Colt | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: James McDonald (56.5kg)

Next Best at Hawkesbury – Dresden
Tracey Bartley and young gun apprentice Reece Jones combine in the opening race of the afternoon with four-year-old gelding Dresden. The son of Shamus Award has been knocking on the door this preparation, so now third-up, we are confident that he can be winning. After finishing some 7.6 lengths away in fourth when resuming, the gelding fought on gamely to go down only a length at Wyong at the end of July over 1350m. Having drawn barrier three and now stepping out to the mile, Jones will look to dictate terms from the front and be the one that the others have to gun down. Dresden can breakthrough at start six.
Next Best
Race 1 – #1 Dresden (3)
4yo Gelding | T: Tracey Bartley | J: Reece Jones (a0)(59kg)

Best Value at Hawkesbury – Mandalong Cash
After running a cracking fourth on debut behind Stay Inside and then finishing midfield in the $2 million Inglis Millennium behind Profiteer in the summer of 2021, Mandalong Cash hasn’t really gone on with it. The four-year-old entire has just one win from 18 starts after he broke through in fine style at Canberra in April. The son of Capitalist has shown he does have ability, so we are happy to give him a chance at the double-figure quote which is available with online bookmakers. The Gary Nickson-trained galloper was only run down late at Dubbo last start when third, so he will be trying to hold on a bit longer in this third-up assignment.
Best Value
Race 6 – #10 Mandalong Cash (7)
4yo Horse | T: Gary Nickson | J: Kathy O’Hara (54.5kg)
