Two-year-old colt Hawaii Five Oh will be looking to follow in his sister’s footsteps when he debuts in Saturday’s opening race at Rosehill Gardens.
By I Am Invincible out of Group 1-winning mare Aloha, Hawaii Five Oh is a full brother to $1.9 million earner Libertini, who tragically passed away earlier in the year.
Hawaii Five Oh will be trained by Mitchell Freedman, with the young trainer giving the colt two soft trials in readiness for his race-day debut.
The colt has opened as a $6 chance with online bookmakers ahead of the 1200m 2YO Handicap at Rosehill, with the market gravitating towards Coolmore Stud-owned Northern Beaches.
Both Hawaii Five Oh and Northern Beaches hold nominations for the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm in June, with tomorrow’s race the first real test of credentials for both colts.
Similarly to Hawaii Five Oh, Libertini was beaten in her first two trials, before finishing second to Bivouac on debut at Group 3 level, and subsequently stringing four wins together.
Hawaii Five Oh will jump from barrier two with Libertini’s regular rider, Tommy Berry, in the saddle.
