Hong Kong racing continues at Happy Valley on Wednesday night with a very competitive nine-race program for us to sink our teeth into. The rail is in the C position the entire circuit, and although there is a chance of some showers on the day, we’re hopeful we get pristine conditions for the evening of racing. The first event is set to get underway at 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST).
Best Bet: Seasons Wit
Seasons Wit will be having his fourth career Hong Kong start and looks primed to find his first win. His latest effort at Happy Valley over the 1000m was nothing short of sensational; this son of Capitalist gave his rivals a massive head start from barrier 10 and never looked likely, before powering home under Zac Purton to finish less than a half-length off Harmony N Blessed. He now races against a very similar field with a much better setup to find success. He draws barrier three this time and maps to get on the leaders’ back. Once finding open space turning for home, Seasons Wit will be powering home again — this time to score.

Next Best: Magniac
Magniac will be looking to produce back-to-back wins, and despite needing to carry a big weight, we’re confident he can do just that. His win on April 14 was ultra-impressive when sitting outside the leader throughout the 1200m, then when asked for an effort by jockey Zac Purton he proceeded to put his rivals away by two lengths. He now gets a 4kg penalty for his success; however, we think the class of this gelding by Lucky Street can offset that. He looks the likely leader, and although there is plenty of speed engaged, we saw last start this three-year-old is adaptable and can absorb pressure if his rivals try to dictate terms. Magniac will be a tough nut to crack when the race goes on, and we don’t think they’ll be able to catch him.

Best Value: Lean Hero
After winning The Goodwood at Morphettville on Saturday afternoon, Australian-based jockey Michael Dee begins his Hong Kong campaign on Wednesday night. His second ride upon arrival will be Lean Hero, who has won at this course and distance in the past and resumed impressively at Sha Tin on May 7. There, he got back to the rear of the field before unleashing down the middle of the course, finishing mid-field on return from a 10-week spell. Even though the margin wasn’t flattering, it was always going to be a difficult task as the wet track never suited this Japanese-bred colt. With a fitness run under his belt, heading back to the scene of his first and only Hong Kong win looks like the perfect time for punters to hop back aboard. We should be getting a good price with the top online bookmakers when markets open and we think it’s a terrific early chance for Dee to snag a winner.
