Hong Kong racing returns to Happy Valley, this time for a rare Thursday evening meeting of nine races served up for punters. We’re racing with the rail in the A position the entire circuit, and although there is some rain around on the day, we expect the track to play evenly. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST).
Best Bet: One Heart One
One Heart One has now had six career starts in Hong Kong and looks ready to finally break his maiden status on Thursday night. His latest performance at this course and distance caught the eye when cutting up the inside of the track turning for home to go down 2.8 lengths to Villa Fionn. He was near last due to the wide barrier; however, jumping from barrier seven this time, One Heart One should sit much closer to the speed in a mid-field position. This Burgundy gelding could even be set alight a long way out if the tempo slows up. Regardless, we’re keen to be following him in what looks a moderate Class 4 affair.

Next Best: Packing Succeeder
Packing Succeeder will be looking to make the swift jump from Class 4 to Class 3 company, and we think this son of Pins can manage the task. He finished second last time behind Sixth Generation on March 22 and was making inroads late in the piece while the winner was off with the prize. He won prior to that effort and may have been a victim of the heavy weight when chasing from his position. He heads into Class 3 company for the first time and should make a good go of it with the 53kg on his back, courtesy of the 1kg claim of Matthew Poon. He’s drawn awkwardly in barrier eight, but if Poon takes luck out of the equation and elects to lead with the light weight, it’ll go a long way to securing victory.

Next Best Again: Helene Feeling
Helene Feeling caught the eye on Hong Kong debut when running into an airborne Howdeepisyourlove on March 15. He kept on chasing to the line despite being outsprinted by the eventual winner, but gave a strong impression late that the 1650m at Happy Valley would find him to be a major player. Zac Purton elects to stick on this son of Sioux Nation, and based on his European form he should have no issues seeing out the trip on the tight-turning city circuit. Barrier nine throws up a difficult challenge for Zac Purton to overcome, but we’ll leave it to him to weave a passage from the back of the field on this Danny Shum-trained gelding.

Best Value: Telecom Cheetah
Telecom Cheetah returns from a 41-week spell and should be able to make an impression first-up on Thursday night. He’s had three barrier trials leading into this assignment and all of them have shown he’s returning in good order for the Dennis Yip yard. Harry Bentley takes the reins on this occasion and will likely be nearer to last than first turning for home, but we’ve seen Telecom Cheetah do it before as a two-time winner at Happy Valley, and we think he can do it again.
