Staying siren Gypsy Wyong ‘roamed’ to her second Group 1 victory in three weeks, ‘wandering’ to a $105,000 first prize in tonight’s Bold Trease final (715m) at Sandown Park.
Prepared at Anakie by Andrea Dailly, Gypsy Wyong gave Victoria’s leading trainer her second Bold Trease win. She scored with Bourbski Fever in 2015.
Gypsy Wyong (July ’19 Westmead Hawk x Dyna Gypsy) has ‘travelled’ into staying queen status, having also won the G1 Topgun Stayers on November 6.
Positioning second behind tearaway leader Untapped in the formative stages, Gypsy Wyong ($6.20) assumed control with around 200m to travel before denying Kel Greenough’s Kenny The Brute ($8.00) by 2.8L with Jeff Britton’s Mepunga Ruby ($1.90F) a further 0.9L away third in 41.71sec.

Greenough won the 2010 Bold Trease with So Seductive https://watchdog.grv.org.au/greyhound/-302198 in 2010, while Britton won the race with Cash Express in 2007.
Gypsy Wyong – the first female to win the race since the immortal Fanta Bale in 2017 – notched her 15th win from 28 starts. She joined Arvo’s Athena (2004) as the only winners to have saluted from Box 6 in the event’s 22-year history.
And her stakes catapulted to $181,525. She has also won the G3 Top Cat Video Cup (725m) and finished third in the G1 Hume Cup (600m) – both at The Meadows.
Her delighted handler, Korie-Lee Heinrich, said, “it was probably game over” after Gypsy Wyong was so prominent early.
As for Gypsy Wyong’s racing future, Heinrich said, “I’m not sure what the plan is, we’ll just see whatever’s on.”
