Greyhound Racing Victoria Chair, Peita Duncan released the following statement acknowledging today’s announcement by the Minister for Racing, Martin Pakula:
“On behalf of the Greyhound Racing Victoria Board and staff, our Clubs and thousands of participants, I wish to acknowledge the significant contribution Martin Pakula has made to greyhound racing in Victoria during his time as the Minister for Racing and sincerely thank him for his strong support of the industry.
“Victorian greyhound racing has been the beneficiary of Martin’s great love of all codes of racing, his support for the many people, clubs and communities involved in the industry across the state and his passion to ensure it continues to flourish.
“Our sport has thrived under Martin’s ministerial guidance and support, to become a world leader, particularly in the important areas of integrity and animal welfare.
“The past two years have challenged us all in various ways as we have navigated through the global pandemic. Martin, with the support of his Victorian State Government colleagues, provided stability for the industry’s workers and greyhounds and supported all three codes to maintain racing continuity. This enabled our many thousands of participants to continue their business operations, during the most challenging time ever seen in our state.
“Martin’s deep understanding, extensive knowledge and strong advocacy and commitment has proven to be a wonderful asset for the Victorian racing industry during his time as Minister for Racing, and I sincerely thank him on behalf of all in our sport.
To Martin, wife Lisa and children Ben and Eva, I wish you all every success and happiness in whatever the future holds for your family.
