The exciting three-year-old Growing Empire is set for his biggest challenge yet when he lines up for Friday’s Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m).
Since finishing second on debut in maiden company back in February, Growing Empire has strung together four consecutive wins in stakes races, most recently claiming a 1.3-length victory in the Listed Poseidon Stakes (1100m) earlier this month.
Trainer Ciaron Maher acknowledges that stepping up to elite-level competition will be a significant test for the colt.
“We’re going to have a look at how the race maps and shapes for him,” Maher told Racing.com.
“He worked on Saturday and has come through his run at Flemington in great order, so we’re looking forward to Friday.
“I’m confident, three-year-olds have got a good record and he’s pretty progressive.”
In addition to Growing Empire, Maher will likely have a strong presence in the race, with stablemates Recommendation, Southport Tycoon, and Estriella all expected to contest Friday’s feature.
