GRV will receive $3.4 million in State Government funding to help secure the sport’s 4,000 jobs and sustain the industry.
GRV CEO Alan Clayton said the support package was welcome.
“This package will assist us maintaining prize money and ensuring the viability of all our clubs, many of which are in regional Victoria and which have like other businesses been hit hard by COVID-19,” Mr Clayton said.
“Like all racing codes, greyhound racing has taken a financial hit with COVID-19 through loss of revenue due to our joint venture partner the TAB having to close its retail outlets, no crowds at race meetings and the closing of gaming venues at some of our clubs.
“Clubs have been particularly hard hit by the need to race without crowds.
“This new support will ensure the 12 clubs currently operating can continue to maintain safe, high-quality racing and training facilities so that they are ready to open their gates to the wider community once it is safe to do so.”
