Greyhound Clubs Victoria and GRV have announced a new program “Building track superstars” to commence early in 2021.
Kicking off 2021 Victorian Greyhound Clubs will employ trainees from their local communities. The students will complete a Certificate 3 in Sports Turf Management over a 4-year period. The students will experience an industry that races 26 times a week over 13 locations. They will work together, sharing their experiences, with mentors at each club to guide them along their journey.
Greyhound racing is a large employer, employing 4300, most in regional Victoria, and contributing $540 million to the economy. The sport will continue to engage with the local community by providing these traineeships to help fill a shortage in regional employment.
CGV Chairman Adrian Scott said: “With animal welfare at the forefront of our industry, this is just another step in the commitment to the trainers and participants in the sport to increase the standards and professionalism of all 13 greyhound tracks.
“This joint initiative is a very positive start to 2021 with a large investment from Greyhound Racing Victoria and the 13 Greyhound Clubs.”
Greyhound racing began almost 150 years ago, ensuring continued employment at our 13 clubs and we are looking forward to a strong future within the industry.
GRV acting CEO Shane Gillard said GRV was working with Greyhound Clubs Victoria on a major Track Maintenance Staff project that would cover training and education, skills and standards benchmarking and improved resources to support such staff.
