What Grafton Races
Where Grafton Racecourse – 284 Powell St, Grafton NSW 2460
When Monday, April 3, 2023
First Race 1:00pm AEST

We kick-off the racing week with an eight-race program out of Grafton Racecourse. The rail is out +4.5m from the 800m-winning post, while the remainder of the course will sit out +3m. We’re in for some horrible conditions unfortunately with a Heavy 8 track listed for Monday, plus the forecast could see plenty more rain hit the tracking leading into the meeting. The first race is set to get underway from 1:00pm AEST.

Grafton Best Bet Of The Day: Costa De Oro

Costa De Oro ran into a very nice type at Ballina in the form of Leopardi and we’re willing to trust that form heading into Monday. Costa De Oro was cast three-wide for most of the journey and despite that she held her ground nicely finding the line third best on that occasion. The step-up in trip to 1190m looks ideal provided jockey Ashley Morgan gets cover this time, she looks the one to beat heading into this maiden contest. The Matthew Dunn yard have been attempting to find the perfect set-up for their Pierro mare and we think this is it.

Best Bet

Race 4 – silks#1 Costa De Oro (6)

4yo Mare | T: Matthew Dunn | J: Ashley Morgan (57.5kg)

$2.20 with Neds

Next Best Bet: Charmed Destiny

We’re keen to be with Charmed Destiny getting back out to a staying trip on Monday afternoon. He’s had plenty of runs under his belt and with nine starts for seven minor placings to his name, it’s D-Day for this son of Tamayuz. He’s drawn to get the ideal run in behind the speed and despite this field posing some threat, Charmed Destiny can get the job done back to the 1720m. He’s got fitness on his rivals and provided he gets the breaks on this heavy track on Monday, we’re happy to be with him heading to Grafton this time.

Next Best

Race 3 – silks#2 Charmed Destiny (6)

4yo Gelding | T: John Sprague | J: Kirk Matheson (59kg)

$2.90 with Palmerbet

Best Value: Westerly

It was a strong debut for Westerly under new trainer Chris Manson running into third over an unsuitable trip. He ran over the 810m at Coffs Harbour on March 20 and was powering over the top late but just ran out of time. Now with a run for the new stable and a step-up to the 1015m this four-year-old gelding can find the time to chase down his opposition. He’s drawn a little awkwardly from barrier seven but we don’t expect jockey Danny Peisley to be any worse than mid-field turning for home, provided that’s the spot he lobs, the price with online bookmakers may be over the odds.

Best Value

Race 2 – silks#2 Westerly (7)

4yo Gelding | T: Chris Manson | J: Danny Peisley (59kg)

$7.50 with Ladbrokes
